Originated in Ancient Greek, the first “cheesecake” may have been created on the Greek Island of Samos and were even served to athletes at the first Olympic Games as a source for energy. By 18th century, the cheesecake has been recognized in America and Europe. The cheesecake has been evolving since then with different region around the world has it own preference to make the cake. American use cream cheese with some adding sour cream, Italian use Ricotta cheese, Greeks use feta, German prefer cottage cheese and Japanese with their combination of cornstarch and egg whites. In spite of all the variations, this creamy cheesecake remains a favourite for sweet tooth of all ages.

A traditional baked cheesecake with creamy rich cheese texture on a base made from crushed cookies.
